Zhejiang Vocational College of Commerce is located in Binjiang Higher Education Zone with its branch campus in downtown Hangzhou. It grew out of Zhejiang Secondary Commercial School founded in 1911. With the school’s philosophy of “Honesty, Persistence, Diligence and Simplicity” and adhering to the principle of “giving priority to quality education for students”, the college over the past 100 years has produced over 60,000 professionals, including some well known alumni such as patriot Zhang Naiqi and economist Luo Genmo. The college is being glorified as “the cradle for cultivation of Zhejiang entrepreneurs”.

ZVCC consists of 6 departments: the Department of Accounting, the Department of Economics and Business, the Department of Information Technology, the Department of Cuisine and Tourist Management, the Department of Applied Engineering and the Department of Arts Design with 31 specialized programs. Among these specialized programs, Cuisine and Restaurant Management and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning are provincial key specialized programs.

    The College has a total enrolment of over 8,000 students. It has 569 teaching staff members of whom 439 are full-time teachers. More than 200 teachers hold master’s or doctorate degrees and 150 senior or associate senior professional titles.

    The two campuses cover an area of 27 hectares with a total floor space of 190,000 square meters. The value of teaching equipments is approximately RMB 40 million. In addition, the college boasts over 600,000 books.

    To provide a quality hands-on experience for the students, the college endeavors to set up 100 on-campus laboratories and practical training venues whose floor space are more than 40,000 square meters and 115 off-campus internship bases. One of these practical training venues is funded by the central government of China.

    As vocational education is a practical area of specialization, consistent efforts have been made to explore new strategies of training students, which has resulted in numerous accomplishments. Louwailou Food and Beverage School and Landison School for Hotel Management are established to explore new ways of training students through work-study program. Starting Business Zone is founded to enhance start- up education in a true -to -life environment. As of now, 88 students have started their own business and many have succeeded. This experiment is recognized by the mainstream national press as “an ice –breaking journey to China’s start-up education”.

    The college is proud of its outstanding academic awards. For instance, in 2007, its staff and students have won 10 national awards and 41 provincial awards.

    With all these achievements, the college enjoys a sound reputation and is a best choice college for many high school graduating students. Furthermore, the graduating student’s employment rate hits 97% in the past five consecutive years.
